How I make weighted blanketsAll of my weighted blankets are made-to-order.
|
My weighted blankets are made with two layers of cotton fabric on the outside, usually reversible with one layer of print and the opposite layer of a coordinated solid color.
Beneath the outer layers are two layers of a China silk lining, allowing for movement of the weighted material within each pocket.
The edges of all four layers are all serged and turned, and the pockets are stitched with heavy thread to prevent any shifting of material.
I use plastic pellets and chips which creates the weight, but does not hold heat, allowing the blankets to remain cool.
The cotton fabric breathes, keeping the blankets from getting too hot.
While most people prefer the cotton, I will make a blanket with fleece, if desired.
Regardless of the type of fabric, all my blankets are machine washable and tumble dry. They have been washed and dried prior to delivery, so you do not have to be concerned about the color bleeding.
The weight of the blanket is carefully planned after my consultation with you. Blankets which are too light or too heavy will not provide the benefits. The plastic pellets and chips for each individual pocket are weighed by hand and are within 1/10 ounce of the desired weight. This is important because each pocket should contain the correct weight in order for the blanket to be effective.
